Golf Legend Says He Is “Still Processing” His Loss
Tiger Woods has officially withdrawn from this week’s Genesis Invitational, stating he is “not ready” to return to golf as he continues to grieve the loss of his mother, Kultida Woods.
The 15-time major champion, whose mother’s passing was announced on February 4, had initially been listed to compete in the PGA Tour event at Torrey Pines. However, on Monday, Woods shared on social media that he was unable to play.
“I planned to tee it up this week, but I’m just not ready,” Woods wrote. “I did my best to prepare, knowing it’s what my mom would have wanted, but I’m still processing her loss.”
Woods thanked fans for their support and expressed hope that he could still attend the tournament later in the week.
Woods has not competed in a PGA Tour event since The Open in July 2024, where he missed the cut.
His playing schedule has been limited in recent years due to severe injuries sustained in a 2021 car accident. The 49-year-old underwent back surgery in September 2024 and has made selective appearances since, including:
Playing alongside his son, Charlie, in a 36-hole event in December
Participating in Tomorrow’s Golf League (TGL), an event he helped establish
Woods is the official tournament host of the Genesis Invitational, which benefits his TGR Foundation.
This year’s event, originally set for Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles, has been relocated to Torrey Pines in San Diego due to the Los Angeles wildfires.
While Woods may not compete, he is still expected to be involved in some capacity, pending his availability.
With his return to competitive golf still uncertain, Woods’ next possible appearance on the PGA Tour remains in question. However, his focus remains on family as he processes this difficult time.
The golf world continues to extend condolences and support to Woods and his family.
