Small actions. Big difference. Brampton celebrates Earth Month with recognition, community cleanups, and tree-planting initiatives.
The City of Brampton is celebrating Earth Month 2025 with the launch of its new “Imagine Your Impact” campaign, encouraging residents to take small actions that lead to big environmental change. As part of the City’s continued commitment to sustainability, the campaign will include a series of free, family-friendly initiatives aimed at reducing litter, supporting green spaces, and inspiring collective community pride.
The campaign urges residents to imagine the impact of everyday choices—such as picking up after pets, using garbage bins properly, and respecting park rules—and how those actions, when embraced city-wide, can transform the environment and protect Brampton’s parks, trails, and waterways.
“Brampton is proud to be recognized as a 2024 Tree City of the World, a reflection of our strong commitment to protecting and growing our urban forest,” said Mayor Patrick Brown. “As we celebrate Earth Month, I encourage residents to get involved in the many events and programs happening across the city. Whether it is planting a tree, cleaning up a park or signing the Litter Reduction Charter, every action counts as we work together to build a cleaner, greener Brampton for generations to come.”
As part of its environmental leadership, the City of Brampton has also been named a 2024 Tree City of the World by the Arbor Day Foundation and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. This recognition supports Brampton’s One Million Trees program, which aims to plant one million trees by 2040, and affirms the city’s strong urban forest management efforts.
This Earth Month, residents can take part in a wide range of initiatives:
- The Brampton Schools Cleanup Challenge invites schools to clean up their grounds, with a chance to win a $1,000 gift card to the Outdoor Learning Store.
- The Parks Cleanup Program, generously sponsored by Capital Power, CN, and TD, continues city-wide until November 1. Last year’s program saw over 30,000 participants and more than 1,800 self-led cleanups.
- Community Tree Planting, sponsored by Toronto Pearson and CN, will take place on April 26 at Gore Meadows Community Centre. Space is limited, and residents are encouraged to register at brampton.ca/trees.
The City is also encouraging residents, schools, and businesses to sign the Litter Reduction Charter, pledging to keep Brampton clean. Participants can track and share their efforts through the Ready, Set, Collect tool, which launched in 2024 and has already tracked 238 bags of litter collected across the city.
“Earth Month is a time to reflect on how our everyday actions shape the future of our city,” said Regional Councillor Rowena Santos, Chair of Community Services. “This year, we are proud to launch Imagine Your Impact, an initiative inspired by feedback from residents who want to see a cleaner, greener Brampton. Whether it is picking up after your pet, using the right bin, or joining a local cleanup, small efforts add up. I encourage everyone to get involved and take pride in helping Brampton become Canada’s first litter-free community.”
The City is also reminding residents of its ongoing efforts to maintain Brampton’s more than 850 parks. Staff work year-round to ensure public spaces are clean and welcoming, supported by increased signage, proactive waste patrols, and by-law enforcement.
“Whether it is through our school cleanup challenge, community events or simply respecting our parks, Earth Month is a time for all of us to come together and take care of our city,” said Regional Councillor Michael Palleschi, Chair of Planning and Development. “These collective efforts show the strength of our community and our shared commitment to keeping Brampton clean, green and vibrant.”
