Hazardous Travel Conditions Expected as Snow and Strong Winds Hit Toronto

Toronto — Environment Canada is cautioning residents about potentially hazardous travel conditions as a mix of snow and strong winds moves through the city on Thursday and Friday.

A special weather statement issued early Thursday warns of reduced visibility during brief periods of heavier snow, combined with wind gusts reaching up to 70 km/h.

While total snowfall accumulation is expected to remain low, forecasters say lake-effect snow could affect parts of the Greater Toronto Area, creating rapidly changing and potentially dangerous road conditions.

Winds are expected to ease by Thursday morning, though cool and breezy weather will continue into Friday.

Nighttime temperatures on both days are forecast to drop to –2°C, bringing a wintry chill to early November.

Meanwhile, Toronto Island ferries are diverting to Hanlan’s Point due to high winds in the harbour. The City of Toronto says shuttle buses will transport passengers between Wards Island and Hanlan’s Point to maintain service.
