Emergencies can strike without warning — from heat waves and winter storms to power outages and severe weather events. That’s why the City of Brampton is joining municipalities across Canada in recognizing Emergency Preparedness (EP) Week from May 4 to 10, 2025, urging residents and businesses alike to assess their readiness and take proactive steps toward resilience.
To launch EP Week, the City invites the public to a community-focused event that underscores the importance of preparation through collaboration. In partnership with local Ward Councillors, Enbridge, the City’s Sponsorship team, Brampton Emergency Management Office (BEMO), and community partner Achēv, the event will include the distribution of emergency kits to residents — a tangible reminder that preparedness is a shared responsibility.

How Residents Can Get Prepared
Every Bramptonian has a role in emergency readiness. The City encourages residents to:
Make a Family Plan: Ensure everyone in your household knows what to do if separated during an emergency. Create a home escape plan with two exits per room, designate a safe meeting place, and regularly practice the plan together.
Build a 72-Hour Emergency Kit: Your kit should include non-perishable food, bottled water, a flashlight, medications, toiletries, blankets, cash, extra keys, and supplies for pets if needed.
These small but vital actions can significantly reduce the impact of emergencies and ensure your family’s safety and comfort.
Focus on Business Resilience
Following EP Week, the City will observe Business Continuity Awareness Week from May 19 to 23, shifting focus to the resilience of Brampton’s business community.
Business continuity planning is crucial in today’s uncertain climate. It involves identifying potential disruptions, assessing risks, and prioritizing recovery strategies. Whether it’s the loss of a facility, technology, personnel, or other key resources, having a continuity plan ensures that operations can be restored swiftly and with minimal impact.
City officials emphasize that every business — from startups to large enterprises — can benefit from business continuity planning. The process should include risk assessments, training, simulation exercises, and periodic plan updates. Most importantly, it must involve input and cooperation across all departments to be effective.
Building a Resilient Brampton, Together
Throughout May, the City of Brampton encourages both residents and businesses to adopt simple yet meaningful steps to prepare for the unexpected. By building awareness, practicing readiness, and strengthening community connections, Brampton is working toward a safer and more resilient future.
