The City of Brampton has earned national recognition after being ranked Canada’s top Food and Beverage Processing Cluster by Business Facilities Magazine in its 2026 Annual Global Rankings, further strengthening the city’s reputation as one of the country’s premier destinations for food manufacturing, innovation and investment.
The prestigious ranking recognizes Brampton’s dynamic food and beverage processing sector, one of the largest and fastest-growing industries in Canada. With more than 300 companies employing approximately 8,500 people, the industry contributes over $1.3 billion annually to Canada’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), making it a major driver of economic growth and employment.
Brampton is home to several internationally recognized food manufacturers, including Maple Lodge Farms, Italpasta, Sofina Foods, Lucid Corp. and Coke Canada Bottling, while recent investments by Niche Bakers, Handi Foods, HelloFresh and Marc Angelo Foods continue to strengthen the city’s manufacturing base and attract new business opportunities.
The sector plays a vital role in supporting Canada’s broader agriculture, manufacturing, retail and hospitality industries. To encourage collaboration and continued innovation, the City launched its annual Food and Beverage Processing Summit in 2023. Now entering its fourth year, the summit brings together industry leaders, investors and government representatives to explore emerging trends, foster partnerships and promote sustainable growth. This year’s summit is scheduled for September 22, 2026.
The recognition highlights Brampton’s strategic advantages, including its prime location within the Greater Toronto Area, highly skilled workforce, extensive transportation infrastructure and well-established manufacturing ecosystem, all of which continue to attract domestic and international investment.
Mayor Patrick Brown welcomed the achievement, describing it as a reflection of the city’s thriving food and beverage industry, strong manufacturing sector and talented workforce. He noted that the recognition reinforces Brampton’s commitment to creating an environment where businesses can grow, innovate and generate high-quality employment opportunities while strengthening the local economy.
Gurpartap Singh Toor, Chair of Brampton’s Economic Development Committee, said the food and beverage industry remains a cornerstone of the city’s economy, driving innovation, investment and job creation. He credited the collaborative efforts of businesses, government and economic development partners for creating a competitive business environment that continues to attract investment and position Brampton as a national leader in food manufacturing.
Echoing those sentiments, Rowena Santos, Vice-Chair of the Economic Development Committee, said the recognition acknowledges the resilience and innovation demonstrated by both global manufacturers and locally owned businesses operating in Brampton. She added that the award further enhances the city’s reputation as a preferred destination for business investment, economic opportunity and long-term sustainable growth.
Business Facilities Magazine publishes its Annual Global Rankings each year, evaluating communities worldwide across more than 60 categories related to economic development, investment attraction and industrial growth. Brampton secured the top Canadian ranking in the Food and Beverage Clusters category based primarily on the concentration of food processors and employment density, reinforcing its status as a national leader in one of Canada’s most important manufacturing sectors.
