Peel Police Break Ground on $800M Redevelopment of Brampton Headquarters

Peel Regional Police have officially launched a nearly $800-million redevelopment of the Sir Robert Peel Centre in Brampton, marking one of the largest infrastructure projects in the force’s history. The facility, which houses 22 Division headquarters and has served as a cornerstone of policing since 1981, is being completely reimagined to meet the demands of a rapidly growing region.

The two-phase project carries a total budget of $792 million, funded through the capital budget approved by regional council. The first phase, now underway, will see construction of a 130,000-square-foot, two-storey building at the northwest corner of the site. The new space will house specialized forensic identification services, records and digital evidence management, quartermaster stores, and a centralized detainee processing unit equipped with biometric monitoring. Construction began in July and is expected to finish by late 2028 or early 2029.

Throughout the project, the current facility will remain operational to ensure uninterrupted police and administrative services. Deputy Chief Lauren Jackson called the redevelopment a major step toward modernizing service delivery. “This facility will not only enhance how we deliver services, but also strengthen our ability to collaborate, innovate and keep our growing region safe,” she said.

The second phase will feature a 230,000-square-foot, five-storey building that will house 22 Division and corporate development offices, with construction scheduled to begin in early 2029 and wrap up by 2033.

The redevelopment comes as Peel Region prepares for its population to approach two million residents in the coming years. To minimize disruptions, police say construction will run between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., with regular street cleaning and strict noise controls in place.

Peel police are also overseeing two other major projects — 23 Division at Lagerfeld Drive and Mississauga Road, expected to be completed by early 2027, and a new operational support facility at 8100 Mississauga Road, set to be completed by early 2028.
