Fentanyl Charges Against Jordan Morin Dropped, Leaving Victim’s Family Frustrated

Jordan Morin, the man whose violent assault led to the death of 22-year-old Cileana Taylor, is back in the community after all fentanyl-related charges against him were withdrawn by the Crown.

Morin, who served a four-year sentence for aggravated assault in connection with Taylor’s death, had been re-arrested in May 2025 near Bancroft and charged with nine counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, as well as possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000. Police reported finding a cache of drugs, including fentanyl, cocaine, crystal meth, and MDMA.

But in a statement to Metroland, the Public Prosecution Service of Canada said prosecutors determined there was “no longer a reasonable prospect for prosecution” and stayed the charges under section 579 of the Criminal Code.

For Taylor’s family and supporters, who had celebrated when Morin was sent back to jail just months after his early release, the development has been a bitter disappointment. Taylor, a Curve Lake First Nation member, suffered fatal injuries after an assault in 2020 and was removed from life support six months later.

Morin’s return to the community has sparked renewed anger among those who say justice was never fully served and are calling for stronger measures to protect victims’ families from repeated trauma.
