Ontario Expands Seniors Programs to Promote Health, Wellness, and Community Engagement
Brampton North – MPP Graham McGregor today announced the opening of the Guru Nanak Seniors Active Living Centre (SALC) in Brampton North, one of up to 100 new SALC programs launching across Ontario this year. These centres will help seniors stay active, socially connected, and engaged in their communities.
“A gurdwara is more than a place of worship—it is a community hub where everyone is welcome, regardless of their background,” said Graham McGregor, MPP for Brampton North. “Today’s investment ensures that these vital community efforts continue to grow, supporting our seniors and fostering a stronger sense of togetherness in Brampton.”

Keeping Seniors Active, Healthy, and Connected
Seniors Active Living Centres provide essential services and programs that support older adults in maintaining their well-being. These include:
✔ Recreational & Social Activities – Fitness classes, wellness programs, and community engagement events.
✔ Educational & Learning Opportunities – Financial literacy sessions, elder abuse prevention, and technology workshops.
✔ Health & Well-Being Programs – Nutrition guidance, mental health support, and chronic disease management.
“We are delighted to expand activities and services to more seniors in Brampton North,” said Raymond Cho, Minister for Seniors and Accessibility. “This program will help older adults of all abilities thrive in their homes and communities.”
The announcement was met with enthusiasm from local leaders and community organizations:
“The decision to provide ongoing funding to Gurdwara Guru Nanak Mission Centre under the Seniors Active Living Centre (SALC) program is both significant and appreciated,” said Manohar Singh Bal, Secretary and Director, Gurdwara Guru Nanak Mission Centre. “SALC funding will enable seniors to stay fit, active, healthy, and socially connected. We sincerely thank MPP Graham McGregor for his efforts in securing this support.”
“Maj Wm Dwight Sharpe Branch 15 of The Royal Canadian Legion congratulates Gurdwara Guru Nanak Mission Centre on receiving provincial funding for a new Seniors Active Living Centre,” said Henry Verschuren, CD. “This centre will promote active living and better health for Brampton’s growing senior community.”
The provincial government remains committed to enhancing supports for Ontario’s aging population, ensuring seniors can access essential services no matter where they live.
On June 1, 2024, changes to the Seniors Active Living Centres Act, 2017 expanded the eligibility for funding contributions, allowing more organizations—including municipalities, non-profits, charities, Indigenous groups, Legions, Lions Clubs, and recreational clubs—to participate.
The Fall Economic Statement 2024 announced a $17 million funding increase over three years to support up to 100 new Seniors Active Living Centres.
For 2025-26, SALC programs can request up to $55,000 for maintenance and operating costs—up from $50,000 in 2024 and $42,700 in 2023.
