Rowena Santos Joins City in Welcoming National Cricket League 20 Canada Tournament to Brampton This Summer

Brampton is preparing to welcome professional cricket back to the city this summer as the National Cricket League (NCL) 20 Canada tournament arrives from July 16 to August 1, further strengthening Brampton’s reputation as the Cricket Capital of Canada.

Mayor Patrick Brown, Members of Council, including Rowena Santos, and National Cricket League Chairman Arun Agarwal officially launched the tournament this week and celebrated the continued growth of cricket in the city.

The upcoming NCL 20 Canada season will feature:

  • six franchise teams
  • 24 professional matches
  • international cricket talent
  • emerging Canadian players
  • the Brampton Blazers franchise team

The tournament is expected to attract fans, visitors and economic activity to the city while supporting Brampton’s long-term Sport Tourism Strategy.

Cricket Continues to Grow in Brampton

The City of Brampton says it has invested approximately $10 million over the last two years into cricket infrastructure and facility upgrades, including:

  • lighting improvements
  • new pitches
  • upgraded cricket grounds
  • year-round cricket facilities

Current highlights include:

  • 23 cricket fields across the city
  • more than 115 organizations using cricket amenities
  • over 18,000 hours of annual field bookings
  • the upcoming Earnscliffe Park Cricket Facility opening in 2026
  • future cricket facilities proposed as part of the City Lands redevelopment

The city is also continuing its Youth Cricket League programming to encourage participation among young players.
