Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the recent visit of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has laid the groundwork for a renewed partnership between India and Canada, signalling a fresh phase in bilateral relations between the two countries.
Responding to a video shared by Carney on social media highlighting key moments from the trip, Modi said the visit had created a strong foundation for deeper cooperation and long-term collaboration.
“You are absolutely right, Prime Minister Carney. Your visit has built a strong foundation for a truly renewed partnership,” Modi wrote in a post on X. “I look forward to working together with you to build a future defined by trust, growth, innovation and shared prosperity for the people of our nations.”
Carney visited India from Feb. 27 to March 2, marking an important diplomatic engagement aimed at strengthening economic, technological and strategic ties between the two countries. During the visit, both governments announced progress on several key initiatives, including agreements related to uranium supply and cooperation on critical minerals.
The two leaders also agreed to work toward concluding a comprehensive economic partnership agreement aimed at expanding trade and investment opportunities between the countries.
Discussions during the visit focused on increasing cooperation in areas such as defence, critical technologies, renewable energy, education and the development of small modular nuclear reactors.
Carney was accompanied by a high-level Canadian delegation and also held meetings with leading business executives, financial experts and innovators from both countries.
The visit is being viewed as an effort by Ottawa and New Delhi to rebuild momentum in bilateral relations while expanding collaboration in sectors considered essential for future economic growth and energy security.
