Drivers Fined for Taking Coffee Break in Live Lane On Ontario Highway

Transport Truck and Car Stopped on Highway 417, Multiple Violations Issued

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have issued multiple fines to the drivers of a transport truck and a car after they were caught taking a coffee break in a live traffic lane on Highway 417 near Moodie Drive on Saturday evening.

According to police, officers discovered both vehicles stopped on the highway shortly after 5 p.m., creating a serious traffic hazard. The drivers, allegedly unaware of the danger they posed to other motorists, were sitting in their vehicles drinking coffee.

Both drivers received several tickets under the Highway Traffic Act, including $110 fines for disobeying highway signage.

Upon further inspection of the transport truck, officers uncovered multiple violations, leading to additional charges against the transport company. As a result, the truck was temporarily taken out of service.

Police are reminding all motorists that stopping in a live traffic lane is extremely dangerous and can lead to collisions or severe consequences. Drivers are urged to use designated rest stops and parking areas for breaks rather than putting themselves and others at risk on the highway.
