Trump Repeats Claims of Ending Multiple Wars, Credits Tariffs While Defending Record

U.S. President Donald Trump has again claimed he helped resolve “eight wars in 10 months,” crediting tariffs and his broader economic agenda as he outlined his administration’s priorities for 2026 amid slipping public support.

Speaking in a national address, Trump said his second-term leadership had restored American strength, ended the war in Gaza, neutralized Iran’s nuclear threat and brought “peace to the Middle East,” assertions that critics and analysts have repeatedly questioned or disputed.

Trump described tariffs as his “favourite word,” arguing they have driven companies to invest in the United States and helped secure what he called a record US$18 trillion in investment. He said businesses are reshoring production to avoid tariffs, leading to job creation and new factories.

He blamed economic and social challenges on the previous Biden administration, citing issues ranging from inflation and trade policy to immigration and crime. Trump also claimed that his administration has allowed “zero illegal aliens” to enter the U.S. during his second term, a statement not independently verified.

As part of the address, Trump announced a US$1,776 “warrior dividend” for roughly 1.45 million military service members ahead of Christmas.

While the administration has been involved in diplomatic efforts in several global conflicts, experts note that some of the situations Trump cites as resolved were not active wars or remain ongoing, making his claims a subject of continued debate.
