GO Transit Keeps Trains Running for Blue Jays Fans Heading Downtown This Weekend

There’s good news for Mississauga baseball fans planning to cheer on the Toronto Blue Jays this weekend: Metrolinx has confirmed there will be no service disruptions on the Lakeshore West GO train line, ensuring a smooth ride to and from the ballpark.

The provincial transit agency announced Thursday that planned construction work on Oct. 4 and 5 has been cancelled, meaning trains will run on a regular schedule through all stations in Mississauga, Oakville, Burlington and Hamilton.

The move follows major headaches for fans last Saturday (Sept. 27), when service disruptions along the line coincided with a busy weekend of Toronto sports and entertainment events — including games for the Blue Jays, Maple Leafs, and Toronto FC, as well as a concert at Budweiser Stage. GO replaced trains with buses, leading to traffic jams along the QEW, Lakeshore Road and other key corridors.

This time, transit officials acted early. “Everyone responded quickly and collaboratively to a significant change in plans,” Metrolinx said in a statement. “We’re grateful for their flexibility and teamwork in making this possible.”

New closure dates for the Lakeshore West Line will be announced next week.

The Blue Jays face the New York Yankees in two sold-out weekend games at the Rogers Centre, with both starting at 4:08 p.m. Fans heading in from Mississauga and beyond can expect full GO train service — and one less travel headache.
