From Cheese to Cocaine: CBSA Seizes $2M in Drugs at Pearson Airport

A traveller arriving from Jamaica was arrested at Toronto Pearson International Airport after border officers uncovered approximately $2 million worth of cocaine hidden inside cans of processed cheese. The discovery, made on July 19 during a routine luggage inspection, led to the seizure of about 18 kilograms of the drug.

Images released by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) show several cheese cans allegedly used to conceal the illicit cargo. The suspect was taken into custody at the scene.

The seized narcotics have been turned over to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), which is now leading the investigation. Authorities have not yet disclosed what charges the traveller will face.

The CBSA says the case underscores the agency’s continued efforts to stop illegal drugs from entering Canada through both commercial shipments and passenger travel.
