Brampton Launches First-Ever Grow Green Festival to Celebrate Wetlands and Community Action

The City of Brampton is marking a new chapter in its environmental journey with the launch of its first-ever Grow Green Festival on Saturday, May 31. This free, family-friendly event will celebrate the grand opening of the newly restored Loafer’s Lake Wetland and spotlight the city’s growing efforts to protect ecosystems and wildlife.

Taking place from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Paul Palleschi Recreation Centre, the festival is timed to coincide with the lead-up to World Environment Day and will highlight wetlands as essential environmental assets. The wetland restoration project, made possible in part through the Government of Ontario’s Wetlands Conservation Partner Program, is a major achievement in Brampton’s broader environmental strategy.

Attendees can expect a vibrant afternoon of outdoor fun and learning, with interactive booths from over 20 local environmental organizations and community partners. Festival activities include live birds-of-prey viewing, face painting, henna art, a photo booth, and complimentary food. The event invites residents of all ages to explore nature, discover local environmental initiatives, and learn how their everyday choices can contribute to a healthier, greener Brampton.

Generously sponsored by Toronto Pearson and CN, the festival is part of the City’s wider Grow Green initiative aimed at embedding sustainability into everyday life. Residents are encouraged to imagine the power of individual impact—whether through reducing litter, respecting public spaces, or choosing active transportation. Every small action, when multiplied across Brampton’s nearly 800,000 residents, creates a powerful ripple effect.

Mayor Patrick Brown celebrated the announcement, stating, “The Grow Green Festival is a celebration of Brampton’s commitment to sustainability and community. Today and every day, we remind residents that protecting the environment starts right here at home. I encourage everyone to bring their families, learn something new, and enjoy everything this exciting new festival has to offer.”

The festival follows another major community event—the Brampton Bicycle Festival—scheduled for May 24 at Earnscliffe Recreation Centre. Both events reinforce Brampton’s vision of becoming a greener, more livable city.
