Shafqat Ali Re-Elected as Member of Parliament for Brampton—Chinguacousy Park

Shafqat Ali has been re-elected as the Member of Parliament for the newly created riding of Brampton—Chinguacousy Park, following a closely contested race in the 2025 federal election held on April 28. The victory marks his second term in office and reflects the continued trust of residents in his leadership and advocacy.

According to official results, Shafqat Ali of the Liberal Party received 21,168 votes, securing 48.7% of the vote. His closest rival, Tim Iqbal of the Conservative Party, earned 19,339 votes or 44.5%, making it one of the tightest races in the Brampton region. The full vote breakdown is as follows:

  • Liberal – Shafqat Ali: 21,168 votes (48.7%)
  • Conservative – Tim Iqbal: 19,339 votes (44.5%)
  • NDP – Teresa Yeh: 1,150 votes (2.6%)
  • People’s Party – Jayesh Brahmbhatt: 737 votes (1.7%)
  • Green Party – Mike Dancy: 516 votes (1.2%)
  • Independent – Avi Dhaliwal: 324 votes (0.7%)
  • Centrist – Hafiz Muneeb Ahmad: 188 votes (0.4%)

At his election night gathering in Brampton, Ali expressed heartfelt gratitude to his supporters, campaign team, and the residents of the riding.
“This victory is a testament to the strength, diversity, and determination of our community,” he said. “Brampton—Chinguacousy Park deserves strong federal representation, and I will continue working hard to bring our priorities to Parliament.”

Throughout his campaign, Ali focused on critical issues including affordability, healthcare, transit infrastructure, job creation, and protecting Brampton’s economy from U.S. tariffs under President Trump. He also praised the leadership of Prime Minister-elect Mark Carney, saying “Canadians chose competence, experience, and unity. Brampton chose progress.”

During his previous term, Ali served as a strong voice for Brampton Centre, securing investments for local infrastructure, seniors, small businesses, and youth programs. As he transitions to representing the newly defined Brampton—Chinguacousy Park, Ali reaffirmed his commitment to championing the needs of families, workers, and young people.

This victory contributes to the Liberal Party’s overall minority government result and reinforces the party’s continued support across the Greater Toronto Area.
