Giant Canadian Flag Unveiled at Mississauga City Hall Amid Rising Patriotism

A massive Canadian flag now proudly adorns Mississauga City Hall, signaling a strong message of national pride and unity in response to growing tensions with the United States.

The 15 x 30-foot flag, installed on the south side of City Hall facing Burnhamthorpe Road, is the latest move in a series of patriotic gestures by the City of Mississauga. Mayor Carolyn Parrish shared the news on social media, stating, “Huge 15×30 foot flag being installed on the south side of City Hall. Really looks amazing.”

In addition to the main banner, 7 x 15-foot flags will be installed in Celebration Square next week, further showcasing Canadian pride in the heart of the city.

The initiative follows Mississauga’s decision last week to remove American flags from city-operated sites, a move prompted by tariff and annexation threats made by U.S. President Donald Trump. The city has also announced steps to limit American companies’ access to city contracts in a show of economic resistance.

“These flags were previously displayed to welcome incoming U.S. boats and sports teams,” said Mayor Parrish. “At a time when many residents are feeling uncertain about the ongoing tensions with the U.S., they asked for more visible Canadian symbols, and we listened.”

Mayor Parrish emphasized that the actions are not meant to offend the American people but to reflect the pride, unity, and resilience of Canadians during challenging international times.

Public reaction has been mixed, with many residents applauding the move as a bold stand for Canada, while others voiced concerns about escalating diplomatic tensions. Regardless of opinions, the flag now flies high—making a clear statement about Mississauga’s values and vision.
