Air Canada is expanding its flight offerings between Pearson Airport in Mississauga and Mumbai, one of the world’s largest cities. Starting October 27, Canada’s flagship airline will operate nonstop flights from Pearson to Mumbai, the second-largest city in India with a population of 21.6 million (2024).

In a news release issued on Monday, Air Canada announced that this will be the only nonstop service from Canada to India’s financial capital. This new route is part of a broader strategic expansion, with the airline planning to increase its seat capacity by 40 percent for the winter 2024/25 season.

The expansion also includes improved service between Western Canada and Delhi, India’s largest city with a population of 33.8 million, and additional daily flights from Montreal to Delhi.

“Air Canada will operate 25 weekly flights to India, offering the most comprehensive service of any carrier between Canada and India,” the airline stated. Of these, 11 weekly flights will connect Pearson with Mumbai and Delhi.

“India is a crucial market for Air Canada, reflecting deepening family and trade ties between our two nations,” said Mark Galardo, Executive Vice-President at Air Canada. “We are excited to enhance our network to Mumbai and Delhi, aligning with our hub expansion just in time for Diwali festivities this fall.”

This announcement follows an early May statement from Air Canada about plans to add more long-haul destinations from its Pearson hub.
