Two Purolator truck drivers from Guelph, Melinda Olah and Manohar Rehal, have been commended by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) for their extraordinary heroism after saving a man in distress on Highway 407 near Brampton last month.
On April 29, Melinda Olah spotted a man walking in the traffic lanes of Highway 407 and immediately took action to protect him. Olah pulled over, called out to the man, and then used her truck with hazard lights to block traffic, preventing any vehicles from hitting him. She was soon joined by fellow driver Manohar Rehal, who helped block additional lanes until the police arrived.
Their decisive actions, which lasted about 30 minutes, successfully shielded the man from oncoming traffic and averted a potential tragedy. On May 1, the OPP expressed their “heartfelt gratitude and admiration” for Olah and Rehal, acknowledging their quick thinking and selflessness.
“Their courage and selflessness in the face of danger truly exemplifies the values of Melinda and Manohar,” the OPP stated. “Their actions went well above and beyond their duty as courier drivers, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to the well-being of others and public safety.”
Both drivers were deeply moved by the recognition and hope their actions inspire others to help those in need. Rehal proudly shared the OPP’s commendation with his parents, while Olah emphasized the importance of mutual assistance in society.
