Brampton’s Sunshine List 2023: City Employees’ Salaries Revealed, OPG Execs Top Ontario’s Earnings

The 2023 Sunshine List, which details public sector employees in Ontario earning over $100,000, shows over 1,350 City of Brampton employees included, marking a 14.3% increase from the previous year. Paul Morrison, Brampton’s Commissioner of Legislative Services, topped the list with a salary of $345,122.53 and additional taxable benefits. The list also notes high salaries for other city officials, with Marlon Kallideen, the Chief Administrative Officer, and Bill Boyes, the Community Services Commissioner, following Morrison in earnings.

Notably, former CAO David Barrick, despite leaving his position in February 2022, still ranked fourth in terms of salary. The list covers various city roles, including fire chiefs and commissioners in different departments, indicating a broad distribution of high salaries across municipal services.

Mayor Patrick Brown was notable for being the only city council member on the list, with his earnings documented alongside other high-ranking officials. At the provincial level, Ontario Power Generation (OPG) executives dominated the highest-paid positions, with Kenneth Hartwick, the president and CEO of OPG, being the highest-paid public employee in Ontario.

The Sunshine List, released annually, provides transparency in public sector salaries and has sparked discussions regarding public spending and the compensation of public sector employees.
