Local resident Michael Thompson experienced the win of a lifetime, striking it lucky not once, but twice on the same Poker Lotto ticket, which he purchased at a Shoppers Drug Mart in Brampton. His winnings totaled more than $160,000, a staggering sum that has left him overjoyed.
Thompson played the “all in” option for an extra dollar, which led to him winning the April 9 jackpot of $155,699.80. Additionally, he secured $5,000 from the instant win portion of his ticket. “The royal flush came up and I was flabbergasted,” Thompson recalled, describing the moment he checked his ticket at the store.
The lucky winner shared his initial reaction with his mother. “I asked her if she has a good heart, as I showed her the ticket and she screamed with excitement,” he said. Currently working in public service, Thompson plans to use his winnings to pay off some bills, invest, and share a portion with his friends, besides buying a new computer for himself.
