Winter Storm Disrupts Waste Collection in Peel: What Residents Need to Know

Residents of Mississauga and Brampton should expect delays in garbage collection as a major snowstorm impacts the region. Both cities have declared the storm a “significant weather event”, prompting school closures and travel advisories.

According to Peel Public Works, curbside waste collection will continue as scheduled, but delays are expected due to hazardous road conditions. Residents are advised to leave their bins at the curb until they are collected.

Adding to the delays, waste collection will also be paused on Monday, February 17, for Family Day, meaning some pick-ups may be further postponed.

If your garbage is not picked up on your scheduled collection day, you can:

  • Report a missed pick-up to Peel Public Works at 905-791-9499.
  • Waste Management will send a truck to collect the waste as soon as possible.

To help waste collection crews efficiently remove garbage, the Region of Peel advises residents to:

Place bins as close to the road as possible without blocking sidewalks or driveways.
Avoid placing bins near parked vehicles, trees, or other obstructions.
Ensure lids are closed completely to prevent snow buildup.
Space bins an arm’s length apart for easy collection.
Face bin openings toward the street, with handles facing the house.
Lock your organics bin lid in a vertical position.

With heavy snowfall making roads difficult to navigate, patience is key as waste removal crews work to catch up on delayed pick-ups.
