A 30-year-old Indian student, Vijay Kumar Sheoran, was tragically killed in a stabbing incident in Worcester, central England, on November 25. Police found Sheoran with severe injuries on Barbourne Road in the early hours of the morning, and despite emergency treatment, he later died in hospital. Authorities have arrested five men on suspicion of murder — all released on bail as the investigation continues — while a sixth detainee has been cleared of involvement.
Sheoran, originally from Jagrambas village in Haryana’s Charkhi Dadri district, had resigned earlier this year from his government job with the Central Board of Excise and Customs to pursue higher education in the UK. He was studying at the University of the West of England (UWE) in Bristol at the time of his death.
His family in India is devastated and struggling with the complex process of repatriating his body. In a letter to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Sheoran’s brother Ravi Kumar appealed for urgent diplomatic assistance, saying the family was overwhelmed by “foreign procedures, legal formalities, documentation, and financial aspects.” He requested immediate intervention by the Indian High Commission to ensure a smooth investigation and help bring his brother home.
Haryana BJP MLA Sunil Satpal Sangwan expressed shock over the killing, calling for a transparent and time-bound investigation. He urged both state and central authorities to extend every possible support to the grieving family, especially to expedite the repatriation of Sheoran’s remains.
As the investigation unfolds, the family and the Indian community in the UK continue to seek justice for a young man who left a stable government career to follow his academic aspirations abroad — only to meet a tragic and untimely end.
