Victoria Day in Brampton: Fireworks Rules, Park Fun, and City Closures

As Brampton prepares to celebrate Victoria Day on Monday, May 19, residents can expect closures, modified services, and plenty of outdoor fun across the city. Most municipal offices, including City Hall, will be closed in observance of the holiday, while essential and emergency services such as Fire, By-law Enforcement, and Road Operations will continue uninterrupted.

For those planning to make the most of the long weekend, the City encourages residents to explore local happenings through the Brampton events calendar at experiencebrampton.com. From cultural festivities to outdoor activities, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Residents are reminded that fireworks are strictly prohibited in Brampton except during City-run events. While sparklers are allowed, anyone found using fireworks illegally could face fines starting at $500 and climbing as high as $100,000 if brought before the courts. More details on firework regulations are available at brampton.ca/fireworks.

City services remain accessible throughout the holiday. Service Brampton is available 24/7, with urgent matters handled overnight and all inquiries accepted through the Brampton 311 app, website, or phone lines.

Brampton Transit will run on a Sunday/holiday schedule on May 19, with terminals and facilities such as Lost and Found remaining closed. The Contact Centre will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. to assist riders. Route information can be found at bramptontransit.com or by calling 905-874-2999.

Good news for families: the City’s 18 splash pads are now open for the season, with even more expected to come online in the coming weeks. The wading pool at Chinguacousy Park is set to open May 17, weather permitting. It will operate on weekends through spring and fall, and daily during the summer. Visitors are advised to check for weather-related closures at brampton.ca/splash.

All city parks, playgrounds, and trails—including off-leash dog parks—remain open throughout the long weekend. With over 850 parks and trails to choose from, there’s no shortage of green space to explore. Some recreation centres will also be open with modified hours, though all registered programs are paused on May 19. Full details are available at brampton.ca/holidayhours.

All Brampton Library branches will be closed on both Sunday, May 18 and Monday, May 19. Residents are encouraged to plan their visits in advance or take advantage of the library’s wide range of online services, from ebooks and streaming to educational resources. The new Claireville Branch at Queen Street and The Gore Road also welcomes visitors during regular hours outside the holiday weekend.

Finally, the Brampton Animal Shelter will be closed on Monday, but Animal Services officers will remain on duty to handle emergency calls and patrols.
