Urgent Safety Recall: Children’s Clothing, Cribs, Lawn Mowers, and Torches Recalled in Ontario

Residents across Ontario are being urged to inspect their homes for several recalled items, including children’s clothing, cribs, lawn mowers, and tabletop torches, as they pose serious health and safety risks such as lacerations, burns, and potential entrapment hazards. The recalls have been issued this week, and it is crucial for consumers to take immediate action to prevent any possible injuries.

1. Fashion Online Long-Sleeve/Pants Two-Piece Pajama Sets

Recalled Products:
This recall includes eight styles of children’s two-piece pajama sets, available in sizes 1Y to 8Y, with labels such as “I LOVE MOM,” “I LOVE DAD,” and various unicorn-themed designs. These pajama sets, made of 100% cotton and sold between February 2023 and May 2024, fail to meet flammability standards for children’s sleepwear, posing a serious burn risk.

Risks:
Loose-fitting sleepwear is more likely to come into contact with ignition sources like stoves, candles, or matches, and can ignite quickly, potentially causing severe burns over large areas of a child’s body.

Action Required:
Consumers should immediately destroy the recalled items by cutting the top and bottom in half before disposing of them. They are also advised to contact Fashion Online for a full refund. No incidents or injuries have been reported in Canada as of August 8, 2024.

2. JUVENNO KIDS Button-up Short Sleeve/Shorts Two-Piece Pajama Sets

Recalled Products:
These children’s two-piece pajama sets, available in champagne, light purple, and peach, feature a short-sleeve button-up top with matching shorts. The sets, sold between February 2023 and May 2024, are also found to be non-compliant with flammability standards, posing similar burn risks.

Risks:
Similar to the Fashion Online sets, these pajamas can easily catch fire if exposed to open flames or heat sources, leading to potentially severe burn injuries.

Action Required:
Consumers should destroy the recalled items by cutting them in half and contact JUVENNO KIDS for a full refund. No reports of incidents or injuries have been received in Canada as of August 7, 2024.

3. South Shore Furniture Ltd. Cribs (Balka, Yodi, and Dylan Models)

Recalled Products:
This recall affects specific models of cribs from South Shore Furniture Ltd., including the Balka, Yodi, and Dylan models, sold between July 2020 and March 2024. The cribs pose an entrapment hazard due to slats that are spaced 3 mm to 5.5 mm too wide.

Risks:
The improper spacing between crib slats creates dangerous gaps that could lead to a baby’s body or limbs becoming trapped, posing a severe entrapment risk.

Action Required:
Consumers should discontinue the use of these cribs immediately and contact South Shore Furniture Ltd. for a refund. No incidents or injuries have been reported in Canada as of August 12, 2024.

4. DeWALT Battery Electric Walk Behind Lawn Mowers

Recalled Products:
Several models of DeWALT Battery Electric Walk Behind Lawn Mowers, sold between February 2024 and July 2024, are being recalled. These include both self-propelled and push models. The mowers may fail to shut off or start without a key if water enters the handle support, creating a significant laceration hazard.

Risks:
The malfunctioning of the lawn mower could lead to unexpected blade operation, posing serious injury risks, including lacerations.

Action Required:
If the mower has been exposed to water, stop using it immediately and contact DeWALT for a free repair at an authorized service center. While no injuries have been reported in Canada, 11 incidents have been noted in the United States, including one that resulted in a minor laceration.

5. HOMETRENDS Tabletop Torches and BETTER HOMES AND GARDENS Eco Torches

Recalled Products:
These torches, sold under the HOMETRENDS and BETTER HOMES AND GARDENS brands between February 2024 and July 2024, do not meet the hazard labeling requirements under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act. This lack of proper labeling could lead to unintentional exposure, resulting in serious illness or injury.

Risks:
Without the appropriate safety warnings, consumers may unknowingly use the torches in a manner that could cause harm.

Action Required:
Consumers should stop using the recalled torches immediately and return them to Wal-Mart for a refund. No injuries or incidents have been reported in Canada as of August 6, 2024.

Ontario residents are strongly advised to take these recalls seriously and ensure that any affected products in their homes are safely disposed of or returned for a refund. By doing so, they can help protect their families from the serious risks these items pose.
