Transport Canada has officially lifted the temporary enhanced security measures for passengers traveling to India. The announcement, made by Federal Transport Minister Anita Anand’s office, brings an end to the additional screening protocols implemented earlier this week.
The enhanced measures were introduced on November 20, 2024, following a government directive citing the need for increased caution. During the period of heightened security, travelers to India faced delays due to rigorous screening procedures conducted by the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA).
These measures included thorough X-ray screening of carry-on luggage, physical inspections, and hand-swab testing to detect traces of prohibited substances. Minister Anand had acknowledged the potential for delays, stating, “Passengers may experience some screening delays while these measures are in place.”
While no official details were provided about the specific security concerns that prompted the measures, Transport Canada and CATSA worked to ensure passenger safety and compliance during this period.
With the lifting of these restrictions, passengers can now expect regular security screening procedures at Canadian airports for flights to India.
Transport Canada thanked travelers for their patience and cooperation during the implementation of the temporary protocols and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and efficiency of Canada’s aviation system.
