Scammers Pose as Major Shipping Company, Target Ontarians with Sophisticated Email Fraud

Authorities are warning residents across Ontario about a growing email scam in which fraudsters are impersonating FedEx, one of the world’s largest international shipping companies.

The fraudulent emails claim there are problems with a package shipment and direct recipients to click on a link or fill out personal information to “resolve the issue.” These links lead to fake portals designed to steal sensitive data such as names, addresses, and financial details.

FedEx has confirmed that it does not request personal information through unsolicited emails and has urged the public not to respond to these messages, click on suspicious links, or download attachments.

Law enforcement and cybersecurity experts are reminding Ontarians to remain vigilant. Anyone receiving such an email is encouraged to:

  • Verify package tracking numbers directly through the official FedEx website or app.
  • Avoid clicking on links or providing any personal information.
  • Report suspicious emails to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca).

This warning follows an uptick in phishing and identity theft cases across the province, with fraudsters using increasingly sophisticated tactics to exploit unsuspecting victims.
