Ruby Sahota Clinches Victory in Brampton North—Caledon Nail-Biter

Liberal candidate Ruby Sahota has been elected as the new Member of Parliament for the newly formed Brampton North—Caledon riding, following a tense back-and-forth race that remained too close to call until the early hours of Tuesday.

With 174 of 175 polls reported, Sahota secured 22,346 votes, narrowly edging out Conservative challenger Amandeep Judge, who finished just behind with 21,809—less than 600 votes separating the two candidates in one of Peel Region’s tightest federal contests.

The victory extends Sahota’s time in Parliament, where she has served since 2015, previously representing the Brampton North riding. Throughout her parliamentary career, she has held several senior roles, including Minister of Democratic Institutions, Chief Government Whip, and Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario.

During the campaign, Sahota focused on key priorities such as housing affordability and strengthening Canada’s public health care system, pledging to advocate for better services and economic opportunities in the rapidly growing Brampton North—Caledon region.

The new riding, created through electoral boundary redistribution, is home to more than 106,000 residents. Its formation merged portions of Brampton and Caledon, creating a diverse and politically competitive district.

Conservative candidate Amandeep Judge ran a strong campaign and came within striking distance of flipping the seat, making the race one of the closest in Ontario.

Meanwhile, New Democratic Party candidate Ruby Zaman finished third with 985 votes, and People’s Party candidate Sat Anand received 633 votes.

Sahota’s win is a significant one for the Liberals, helping to secure their minority mandate while maintaining a critical foothold in the GTA.
