Brampton: Local youth turned out in record breaking numbers on Sunday (April 14, 2024) to participate in a clean-up event at Teramoto Park in Brampton, Ontario. In its second annual year, attendance tripled compared to last year. The event was organized by high school co-op student and Santos Youth Council Lead, Pradwit Thapa and drew over 350 students from across Peel Region. The event was supported by Councillor Santos Youth Council, People Against Littering, Let’s Get Together, City of Brampton Parks and Rec, Community Artist Chloe Woolridge-The Black Youth Creative, Councillor Rowena Santos and Mayor Patrick Brown. Walmart Canada logistics staff were on site for the event with water, snacks and motivation.
“It was inspiring to see so many teenagers and youth show up at 10 in the morning to get together to take care of the earth. The purpose of this event is to shift the culture and get people to be more responsible for their own garbage.” said Rowena Santos, Regional Councillor and Chair, Community Services
