Brampton, Ontario – The Flower City Friends Club (FCFC) Women’s Wing hosted a spectacular “Tiyan Da Mela 2026” at the beautiful backyard of a residence on Showboat Crescent, Brampton, where more than 100 women members gathered to celebrate the rich traditions of Punjab in an atmosphere filled with colour, culture, friendship and joy.
Blessed with beautiful sunshine and pleasant summer weather, the lush green backyard was transformed into a picturesque Punjabi village. Beautifully decorated swings, colourful floral arrangements, traditional Punjabi décor and festive displays recreated the charm and nostalgia of the villages of Punjab. Women dressed in vibrant Punjabi suits, phulkaris and traditional jewellery added elegance and beauty to the occasion, making it one of the most colourful cultural celebrations organized by the club.
The celebration commenced with the inaugural address by Ms. Kamal Babra, one of the principal organizers of the event. Welcoming everyone, she said:
“Tiyan is a celebration of our roots, our traditions and the strength of women. It is heartwarming to see so many women gathered here to celebrate our culture, renew friendships and pass on our rich heritage to future generations. This festival reminds us of the values and traditions that define who we are.”
The formal welcome was delivered by Ms. Joyti Dadilia, Event Coordinator, who greeted the distinguished guests and thanked the organizing committee, volunteers and members for their outstanding support.
She said:
“Flower City Friends Club believes in strengthening our community through friendship, volunteerism and cultural celebrations. Today’s Tiyan Da Mela reflects our commitment to preserving Punjabi traditions while creating opportunities for women to connect, celebrate and inspire one another.”
Mrs. Jatinder Paul warmly welcomed the distinguished guests and had the honour of introducing the Special Guest, renowned Punjabi film actress Simi Chahal. Highlighting Simi Chahal’s contribution to Punjabi cinema, Mrs. Paul thanked her for accepting the invitation and making the event even more memorable.
She remarked:
“We are truly honoured to welcome one of Punjabi cinema’s most admired actresses. Your presence has brought immense excitement and happiness to all our members. Thank you for joining the Flower City Friends Club family and celebrating this beautiful festival with us.”
The event was honoured by the presence of Charmaine Williams, MPP for Brampton Centre, who attended as the Chief Guest. In her keynote address, she congratulated the Women’s Wing for organizing such an outstanding celebration.
She said:
“Events like Tiyan Da Mela preserve our rich cultural heritage while strengthening the bonds that unite our communities. It is inspiring to see women of all ages celebrating their traditions with such pride, enthusiasm and joy. Congratulations to Flower City Friends Club for organizing such a meaningful event.”
The celebration was further enriched by the participation of Ruby Sahota, Member of Parliament for Brampton North, who spent time interacting with members, joined the women in traditional Giddha dancing, enjoyed the cultural performances and appreciated the warm hospitality extended by theorganizers.
Addressing the gathering, Ms. Sahota said:
“It is wonderful to see more than 100 women coming together to celebrate Punjabi culture with such enthusiasm and pride. The Women’s Wing of Flower City Friends Club has organized this Tiyan Da Mela in an exceptionally professional and well-planned manner. The colourful decorations, beautiful cultural performances, traditional food and the joyful atmosphere have made this a truly memorable celebration. Congratulations to the organizers and volunteers for preserving our traditions and strengthening our community.”
Regional Councillor Rowena Santos (Wards 1 & 5) also addressed the gathering and praised Flower City Friends Club for promoting culture, volunteerism and community engagement.
She stated:
“Flower City Friends Club continues to enrich Brampton by bringing people together through culture, friendship and inclusion. Today’s celebration beautifully showcases the diversity and vibrant multicultural spirit that makes our city so special.”
Councillor Santos also conveyed a special message from Mayor Patrick Brown, who extended his warm greetings and congratulations to the organizers and participants.
Mayor Brown’s message read:
“Congratulations to the Flower City Friends Club Women’s Wing on organizing another outstanding Tiyan Da Mela. Thank you for preserving Punjabi traditions, celebrating diversity and strengthening community spirit in Brampton. Your dedication to bringing people together through cultural celebrations is truly commendable. Best wishes for continued success.”
One of the biggest highlights of the afternoon was the presence of renowned Punjabi film actress Simi Chahal, whose arrival was greeted with tremendous excitement and applause. She spent considerable time interacting with members, taking photographs, dancing Giddha alongside the women and enjoying every aspect of the celebration.
Addressing the gathering, Simi Chahal said:
“I am truly touched by the warmth and affection shown by everyone today. It is wonderful to witness such a vibrant celebration of Punjabi culture here in Canada. Flower City Friends Club deserves heartfelt congratulations for keeping our traditions alive and ensuring that future generations remain connected to their roots.”
She further added:
“The energy, enthusiasm and unity among all the women here are inspiring. Today’s celebration feels just like a traditional Tiyan festival back home in Punjab. I feel honoured to be part of such a beautiful event and congratulate the Women’s Wing for organizing it with such dedication and excellence.”
The event also attracted visitors from outside Brampton, including Mrs. Gurvinder Lamba, who travelled from Guelph to attend the celebration.

Every detail, from the beautifully decorated swings and traditional village setting to the colourful Punjabi attire, cultural performances and delicious homemade food, reflected careful planning and dedication. The afternoon was filled with continuous entertainment, including energetic Giddha performances, Punjabi folk songs, traditional dances, fun-filled games, cultural competitions and interactive activities, with enthusiastic participation from women of all age groups. The celebration echoed with laughter, music and the spirit of togetherness throughout the day.
Winners of various games and competitions were presented with attractive prizes, adding excitement to the festivities. Guests also enjoyed a delicious selection of authentic Punjabi snacks and traditional homemade cuisine, completing the experience of a true village-style Tiyan celebration.
The event reflected the Flower City Friends Club Women’s Wing’s ongoing commitment to preserving Punjabi heritage, empowering women, promoting friendship and celebrating the rich multicultural fabric of Brampton.
The celebration concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks by Mrs. Jaswinder Daind, President of Flower City Friends Club.
Mrs. Daind expressed sincere appreciation to Chief Guest Charmaine Williams, MPP, Member of Parliament Ruby Sahota, Regional Councillor Rowena Santos, Special Guest Simi Chahal, all distinguished guests, organizers, volunteers, sponsors and every member who contributed to making the celebration an overwhelming success.
