A segment from the U.S. news program 60 Minutes that was pulled from broadcast by CBS News has resurfaced online bearing the branding of Canadian broadcaster Global TV, according to multiple media reports.
The segment began circulating on the web Monday and was reportedly uploaded to StackTV, Global’s streaming platform. However, it was not available for viewing as of late Monday.
Global TV and its parent company, Corus Entertainment, did not immediately respond to calls and emails from The Canadian Press seeking comment.
CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss has said she made the decision to remove the segment from Sunday’s U.S. broadcast. The piece focused on deportees who allegedly faced egregious torture at a notorious prison in El Salvador.
The journalist who reported the story, Sharyn Alfonsi, said the segment had been cleared by CBS lawyers and accused Weiss of attempting to appease the Trump administration, which has been a vocal critic of 60 Minutes.
Weiss has rejected that characterization, saying Alfonsi’s reporting presented powerful testimony but did not “advance the ball,” arguing that other news organizations had already reported similar accounts.
The appearance of the segment online with Canadian broadcaster branding has raised questions about how the material was distributed after being pulled from the U.S. broadcast, though no official explanation has yet been provided.
