Over 370 Assaults Reported in Brampton and Mississauga in Just One Month, Police Data Shows

Concerns over public safety are once again in the spotlight across Brampton and Mississauga after new police statistics revealed that hundreds of assault-related incidents were reported across Peel Region in just the past month.

According to recent data released by Peel Regional Police, a total of 378 assault incidents were reported between April 23 and May 24, averaging more than 12 assault-related crimes every single day throughout the region.

The figures show that Brampton recorded the highest number of incidents, with 208 assaults reported during the one-month period, while Mississauga accounted for 169 cases. One additional incident occurred in Caledon under Peel police jurisdiction.

Police mapping data identified two major hotspots where assault-related incidents were reported most frequently. Both Airport Road and Dundas Street each recorded seven separate occurrences, making them the region’s most active locations for reported assaults during the reporting period.

While the data provides a snapshot of the volume and locations of reported crimes, police have not publicly disclosed the specific nature of each assault, nor whether victims suffered injuries in individual cases.

Investigators have, however, managed to solve a significant number of the reported incidents. Out of the 378 cases, Peel police say 262 investigations have already been resolved. Another 71 cases remain under active investigation, while 45 incidents remain unsolved.

Several disturbing assault-related cases made headlines across Peel Region over the past month, including the arrest of a 17-year-old in connection with an alleged sexual assault in Brampton, a Canada-wide warrant issued following a shooting incident in Mississauga, and a violent dispute between pet owners in southern Ontario that reportedly resulted in a man and a dog being stabbed.

Another controversial case involved a former Brampton councillor accused of sexual assault who has indicated plans to run for office again while claiming the allegations against him were withdrawn.

In response to ongoing safety concerns, Peel Regional Police continue to urge residents to remain vigilant and take precautions to reduce the risk of becoming victims of violent crime.

Police advise residents not to open doors to strangers and to communicate through locked doors whenever possible. They are also encouraging people to avoid isolated or poorly lit areas, especially when travelling alone at night, and to become familiar with nearby police stations and 24-hour businesses that may offer assistance in emergencies.

Drivers are being reminded to lock their vehicles immediately after entering and avoid remaining unnecessarily in parking lots. Residents who suspect they are being followed are advised not to go directly home, but instead proceed to a police station or another safe public location.

Police further emphasize that in cases involving theft attempts such as purse snatching, individuals should prioritize their safety over property and avoid physical confrontation unless absolutely necessary for self-defence during an assault.

The latest statistics come amid broader discussions around crime, community safety and policing resources across Peel Region as residents continue to express concerns about violent incidents and public security in rapidly growing urban communities.
