Middlesex OPP Warns Public About Online Investment Frauds
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Middlesex County are investigating a cryptocurrency fraud that resulted in a victim losing $120,000.
According to police, the incident occurred on January 23 at approximately 9:00 AM in Middlesex Centre Township. Officers responded to a report from a local resident who claimed to have fallen victim to an online scam.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim had joined what appeared to be a legitimate investment group on a social media platform. After engaging with group members, they were encouraged to invest in cryptocurrency.
The scam came to light when the victim was asked to deposit additional funds to access their initial investment. Suspicious of the request, the individual contacted the police, suspecting fraud.
Middlesex OPP has confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities are urging residents to be vigilant when engaging in online investment opportunities. Police advise anyone who suspects fraudulent activity to immediately disengage and report the matter.
