Ontario Cracks Down: Dozens of Truck Drivers Lose Licences Over ‘Dishonest’ Testing

Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation has begun mailing suspension notices to truck drivers accused of obtaining their Class A licences “dishonestly” during the training or testing process.

A ministry spokesperson confirmed that 185 drivers have received letters notifying them of immediate suspensions. Dakota Brasier, spokesperson for Ontario’s transportation minister, said the government has “zero tolerance for bad actors on our roads” and moved quickly to revoke licences once concerns were raised.

Officials did not reveal the exact number of suspensions handed down or provide details on the methods allegedly used to cheat the system. What is clear, however, is that the province is making an example of those it believes skirted the rules.

The Class A licence allows drivers to operate large commercial trucks, including tractor-trailers, and is a critical qualification for Canada’s trucking industry. The move to suspend drivers comes amid growing scrutiny of road safety and training standards following high-profile accidents and concerns about enforcement gaps in the licensing system.

The ministry has not said whether those affected will have an opportunity to re-test or appeal their suspensions, but industry watchers believe the crackdown is designed to send a message that any dishonesty in training or testing will not be tolerated.
