A prominent Mississauga businessman gunned down in broad daylight has become the focus of intense international media attention, with conflicting theories swirling about the motive behind the targeted attack.
Harjeet Singh Dhadda, 51, was shot six times outside his business on Tranmere Drive near Telford Way — just minutes from Toronto Pearson Airport — around noon on Monday. Paramedics rushed him to hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries en route.
Dhadda was the long-standing operator of G&G Trucking Solutions, a consulting firm focused on trucking safety and insurance. While Peel Regional Police have yet to publicly disclose further details, the case has made headlines in Indian media outlets, which have reported varying accounts about what may have led to the deadly ambush.
One widely circulated theory suggests Dhadda was targeted for resisting a $500,000 extortion demand — a claim supported by his family members, who say he had recently faced threats. Another controversial report alleges the attack was orchestrated by the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, a criminal organization with alleged ties to past politically motivated violence and connections to India’s security establishment. The Times of India claims a representative from the gang took responsibility for Dhadda’s murder, though Peel police have not confirmed any such links.
Notably, there is no indication that Dhadda was involved in the Khalistani separatist movement, despite the Bishnoi gang’s alleged history of targeting individuals tied to the cause. The same group previously claimed responsibility for the assassination of rapper Sidhu Moose Wala in 2022, another high-profile Canadian case.
As speculation mounts, Dhadda’s grieving family is demanding answers and action.
“My father did not deserve this,” said Tanveer Singh Dhadda, his son, in a heartfelt message posted on social media. “He was an honest, hardworking man — a proud Canadian who lived with dignity and followed the law. Yet he was taken from us by individuals armed with illegal weapons and no fear of consequences.”
Tanveer called out the inadequacies in the justice system, urging urgent reforms to ensure safety for law-abiding families across the country.
“It’s time to have serious conversations around self-defence, legal reform, and the safety of law-abiding families,” he added. “We do not want to see another family experience the pain we are living right now.”
The Peel Regional Police investigation remains ongoing. Authorities have not confirmed any suspects or arrests as of Friday morning.
