Man in His 60s Seriously Injured in Early Morning Fire at Little Italy Supportive Housing Building

A man in his 60s was rushed to hospital with serious, potentially life-threatening injuries after a fire broke out early Friday morning at a supportive housing building in Toronto’s Little Italy neighbourhood.

Toronto Fire Services said the blaze began shortly before 4 a.m. in a second-floor unit of the three-storey building at 321 Dovercourt Road. Firefighters entered the building to find the man unconscious in a hallway with burn injuries. He was quickly rescued, treated by paramedics on scene, and transported to hospital.

Toronto Paramedic Services confirmed the victim remains in serious condition. Several other residents were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation but did not require hospitalization.

The fire was brought under control shortly after crews arrived. Investigators remain at the scene to determine the cause, which has not yet been made public.

The Dovercourt Road property features 44 studio apartments and provides affordable homes and support services for individuals exiting homelessness. According to the City of Toronto, the building opened in January 2021 as part of the city’s supportive housing initiative.

Officials say no residents have been displaced as a result of the fire.
