Iranian Official Warns Trump as Middle East War Intensifies and Oil Markets React

Tensions in the Middle East escalated sharply Tuesday as Iran launched new attacks across the region while issuing a pointed warning to U.S. President Donald Trump amid the widening conflict involving Israel and the United States. Air raid sirens echoed across several cities as Iranian missiles and drones targeted Israeli territory as well as locations across Gulf countries, including the Dubai and Manama, where authorities reported that a missile strike hit a residential building, killing a 29-year-old woman and injuring eight others. Saudi Arabia reported intercepting two drones over its oil-producing eastern region, while Kuwait’s National Guard said it shot down six drones approaching its territory. Explosions were also heard in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv as Israeli air-defense systems attempted to intercept incoming projectiles following reports of missile launches from Iran. Iran’s parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf declared that Tehran had no interest in a ceasefire and insisted that those responsible for attacks on Iran would face retaliation, while senior Iranian security figure Ali Larijani issued a direct warning to Trump on social media, saying Iran did not fear threats and cautioning the U.S. president to “be careful not to get eliminated yourself.” The conflict has also spread into surrounding regions, with Israeli airstrikes reported in Tehran and ongoing fighting involving the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah. Iran has simultaneously targeted energy infrastructure and shipping lanes, effectively halting tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a key passage that carries roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil supply. The disruption has driven global oil prices sharply higher, with Brent crude briefly climbing near $120 a barrel before settling around $90—still significantly higher than before the conflict began on Feb. 28. Tankers are now being rerouted as companies attempt to bypass the increasingly dangerous waterway. Meanwhile, Benjamin Netanyahu signaled that Israel intends to continue military operations against Iran, saying the strikes are aimed at weakening the Iranian regime, while Trump sought to reassure observers that the conflict would be brief, describing it as a short-term military campaign. The war has already spread beyond the immediate battlefield, with clashes involving Iranian-aligned militias in Iraq and Hezbollah in Lebanon, while an airstrike targeting a militia unit in the Iraqi city of Kirkuk killed at least five fighters. Since the conflict began, officials report that more than 1,200 people have been killed in Iran, hundreds more in Lebanon, and multiple casualties in Israel and among U.S. service members, highlighting the growing human and geopolitical toll of a war that continues to expand across the region.
