Honda Canada has announced a voluntary recall of approximately 17,000 vehicles due to a software issue that could cause the engine to stall. The recall affects certain Honda and Acura models from 2021 to 2025.
In a news release issued on Wednesday, Honda Canada explained that improper programming of the fuel injection electronic control unit could trigger the check engine light, leading to a loss of drive power, engine hesitation, or stalling. To address the issue, authorized Honda and Acura dealerships will perform a free software update.
The affected models include:
- 2023-2025 Honda Pilot
- 2022-2025 Acura MDX Type S
- 2021-2025 Acura TLX Type S
Honda Canada stated that it has not received any reports of crashes or injuries related to the problem. The company identified the issue through internal diagnostics and is proactively addressing it to ensure customer safety.
Registered owners of the affected vehicles will receive a notification by mail in February, urging them to visit an authorized dealership for the necessary software update. Honda Canada emphasized the importance of addressing the issue promptly to avoid potential risks.
“Honda Canada is announcing this recall to encourage owners of affected vehicles to take them to an authorized dealer for repair as soon as they receive notification,” the company said in the release.
The recall extends beyond Canada, with approximately 295,000 vehicles affected in the United States.
