Brampton Leads Ontario’s Worst Cities for Road Rage, Study Finds

A new study has ranked Brampton as the worst city in Ontario for road rage, as aggressive driving incidents continue to rise across the province.

The report, conducted by MyChoice, a Canadian company that helps drivers compare auto insurance rates, analyzed over 150,000 car insurance quotes since 2020. The study examined infractions linked to road rage, including speeding, failure to stop, improper lane changes, following too closely, and distracted driving.

The findings show a 9.25% increase in road rage-related infractions across Ontario since 2020, highlighting growing concerns among both law enforcement and insurers.

  1. Brampton – 6.05% (highest rate in the province)
  2. North York – 4.63%
  3. Scarborough – 4.51%
  4. Hamilton – 3.84%
  5. Mississauga – 3.52%
  6. Toronto – 3.12%
  7. London – 3.04%
  8. Etobicoke – 2.89%
  9. Oshawa – 2.37%
  10. Kitchener – 2.29%

The GTA dominates the list, with Brampton, North York, and Scarborough ranking highest for aggressive driving incidents. Despite lower overall percentages, Hamilton, Mississauga, and Toronto still record significant numbers due to high traffic volumes.

Aren Mirzaian, CEO of MyChoice, warns that aggressive driving not only increases the risk of accidents and infractions but also leads to higher insurance premiums.

Road rage can severely impact driving safety and cost drivers more in the long run,” Mirzaian said. “To avoid accidents and fines, staying patient, keeping your vehicle in good condition, and following traffic laws are essential.”

By spotlighting these rankings, MyChoice aims to promote safer driving habits while helping Ontario drivers secure better car insurance rates.

Experts recommend the following strategies to stay safe on the road:

  • Stay calm: Avoid engaging with aggressive drivers.
  • Allow extra time: Rushing leads to frustration and unsafe maneuvers.
  • Use proper signals: Ensure clear communication with other drivers.
  • Maintain distance: Following too closely can escalate tensions.
  • Obey speed limits: Speeding contributes to aggressive driving behavior.

As road rage incidents rise across Ontario, law enforcement and insurance companies urge drivers to prioritize safety and patience to reduce accidents and avoid higher insurance costs.
