Free, Renewable-Powered EV Charging Stations Arrive in Toronto

Toronto electric vehicle owners now have a new reason to plug in. Jolt, an EV charging company, is launching a fast, ad-supported charging station at 130 North Queen Street in Etobicoke, offering drivers free daily charging powered entirely by renewable energy.

Located in a bustling retail zone near Sherway Gardens, Walmart, Winners, and Home Depot, the station will provide up to seven kilowatt-hours of free charging per day—enough to power approximately 40 to 50 kilometres of driving in just 15 to 20 minutes. According to Jolt, this could save local EV drivers as much as $1,100 annually.

The station’s energy comes from 100 per cent renewable sources through Bullfrog Power. Its business model is supported by digital roadside advertising, giving brands high-visibility placement while covering the cost of the free energy. Advertisers like BelairDirect have already joined the network, with companies such as Home Depot, Starbucks, WestJet, and Live Nation participating through programmatic campaigns.

This is Jolt’s fourth station in the Greater Toronto Area since September 2024. Another station opened in April on Mavis Road in Mississauga. The rollout is part of a $194-million partnership with the Canada Infrastructure Bank to install up to 1,500 fast curbside chargers across major Canadian cities, bringing accessible and renewable-powered charging to urban neighbourhoods.
