FCM 2025 Workshop to Tackle Infrastructure Delivery Amid Rising Costs

As municipalities across Canada grapple with escalating material costs and supply chain disruptions, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) is set to host a pivotal workshop titled “On Time, On Budget: Building Tomorrow’s Infrastructure with Today’s Budgets” during its 2025 Annual Conference and Trade Show. Scheduled for May 29 to June 1 at the Rogers Centre in Ottawa, this session aims to equip local governments with strategies to deliver essential infrastructure projects efficiently and economically.

The expert panel will feature:

  • Rowena Santos, City Councillor for Brampton and Chair of FCM’s Municipal Finance, Infrastructure, and Transportation Policy Committee
  • Marco Chitti, Fellow at the Transit Cost Project, NYU Marron Institute of Urban Management
  • Sophie Mauzerolle, Montreal City Councillor
  • Ana-Maria Tomlinson, Director of Strategic and Cross-Sector Programs at CSA Group

This workshop will delve into industry and international best practices to ensure communities receive maximum value for their infrastructure investments. Attendees will gain insights into innovative approaches to infrastructure planning and execution, fostering resilience and fiscal responsibility in municipal projects.

Quote from Councillor Rowena Santos:

“Now more than ever, cities need to be smart, strategic, and collaborative in how we invest in infrastructure,” said Councillor Rowena Santos. “This workshop is about making sure every tax dollar stretches further while still delivering the transit, roads, and community spaces our residents deserve.”

The session is part of FCM’s broader conference theme, “Stronger, Together: Local Strength, National Prosperity,” emphasizing the importance of unity and collaboration among Canadian municipalities to address shared challenges and opportunities.
