Farzi Café Closes at Square One After Wave of Scamming Allegations

Farzi Café, a once-popular dining spot at Mississauga’s Square One Shopping Centre, has officially shut its doors following a flood of customer complaints and viral accusations of billing misconduct.

The restaurant had come under intense scrutiny in recent weeks after several patrons alleged they were overcharged, claiming the café added unauthorized gratuities and extra items to their bills without consent. Among the most prominent voices was Harnoor Sahota, who posted a viral TikTok video describing her group’s $240 bill that included unwanted drinks, appetizers, and inconsistent pricing.

Sahota’s video quickly gained traction online, amassing over 600,000 views and sparking a wave of similar stories in the comments. Diners across platforms like Google, TripAdvisor, and Reddit echoed complaints of aggressive upselling and deceptive billing practices at the Mississauga location.

According to a spokesperson for Square One, Farzi Café ceased operations at the mall as of Monday. While the reason for the closure wasn’t disclosed, the timing aligns with the growing controversy and backlash online. The café has accumulated more than 7,500 Google reviews, many highlighting similar grievances.

Several former patrons, including Sahota, filed formal complaints with the Better Business Bureau (BBB), which has since issued the café an “F” rating based on more than 20 reported incidents.

In a statement posted on Instagram on June 4, Farzi Café denied the allegations, labeling them as “baseless” and asserting that its legal team was pursuing action against those responsible for what it described as reputational damage.

Despite the denial, the mounting customer dissatisfaction appears to have taken a toll. Attempts by media to contact the restaurant for further comment have so far gone unanswered.

The closure serves as a cautionary tale for the hospitality industry about the power of customer reviews—and the consequences when trust is lost.
