Today, the City of Brampton proudly hosted a flag raising ceremony at Ken Whillans Square, located at City Hall, to commemorate World Down Syndrome Day. The event brought together community members, advocates, and city officials to honor and celebrate the contributions of individuals with Down syndrome.
The ceremony featured the raising of the Project 321 Peel Down Syndrome Association flag, adorned with the Down Syndrome Awareness Ribbon, symbolizing the city’s commitment to inclusivity and support for individuals with Down syndrome.

World Down Syndrome Day, observed annually on March 21, holds particular significance as the date (3/21) symbolizes the triplication of the 21st chromosome, characteristic of Down syndrome. This year’s global theme, “Improve Our Support Systems,” calls on governments and communities worldwide to enhance support structures, ensuring individuals with Down syndrome receive the necessary assistance to thrive.
Mayor Patrick Brown addressed attendees, stating, “Today and every day, we celebrate the invaluable contributions of individuals with Down syndrome to our community. Brampton is committed to fostering an inclusive environment where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.”
The City of Brampton continues to advocate for and implement initiatives that promote awareness, acceptance, and support for all individuals, reinforcing its dedication to diversity and inclusion.
