This June, the City of Brampton is proud to celebrate Seniors Month by recognizing the invaluable contributions of older adults who have helped build the city’s vibrant, inclusive, and thriving community. Under this year’s theme, Fit, Active and Healthy Seniors, Brampton is honouring its seniors by expanding access to programs that promote physical activity, mental wellness, and community connection.
As part of this year’s celebration, Brampton is making history as the first city in Canada to launch free 65+ Annual Recreation Memberships. This groundbreaking initiative encourages active aging and offers seniors greater access to the city’s full suite of recreational facilities and programming. Eligible residents aged 65 and over can register in person at any City of Brampton recreation centre by providing proof of age, residency, and citizenship or permanent residency. For full details, visit brampton.ca/memberships.
To mark the launch, the City invites older adults to attend a special kickoff event on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at Century Gardens Recreation Centre. Beginning at 10:30 a.m., attendees can enjoy a complimentary seniors fitness class and connect with Mayor Patrick Brown, City Councillors, and recreation staff. No registration is required.
In addition to the new membership program, Brampton is hosting its annual Springfest Luncheon and Expo on Friday, June 13, 2025, also at Century Gardens Recreation Centre. From 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., seniors can explore a free community expo featuring local services and programs. The afternoon luncheon and dance from 12 to 3 p.m. will include a buffet meal and live DJ. Registration for the luncheon is required and can be completed at any Brampton recreation centre, by calling 3-1-1, or online. The deadline to register is Thursday, June 5.
Throughout June, the City will also offer a wide range of recreational programs for adults aged 55 and older, including Stained Glass Mosaic Coasters, Latin Dance, Table Tennis, Badminton Skills and Drills, and Bhangra Dance. Older adults will also benefit from a 25% discount on most registered programs. More information and registration can be found at brampton.ca/registerforprograms.
The City of Brampton remains committed to supporting older adults through its Age-Friendly Strategy, which guides programming and services designed to help seniors live well, stay safe, and remain connected in their communities.
“Brampton’s seniors have played a foundational role in building our city into the thriving and diverse community it is today. We are deeply grateful for their lifelong contributions, as parents, grandparents, workers, volunteers and community leaders. Their contributions continue to enhance every part of our lives,” said Patrick Brown, Mayor of Brampton. “This Seniors Month, we are proud to honour their legacy by expanding opportunities for connection, recreation and celebration. Brampton is the first city in Canada to offer free recreation memberships for residents 65 and over, and I encourage all older adults to take part in this new program, along with the many free events and activities designed to support healthy, active living.”
“Older adults bring wisdom, resilience and a strong sense of community to Brampton, and we are thankful for all that you do,” said Rowena Santos, Regional Councillor for Wards 1 & 5 and Chair of the Community Services Section. “I am proud of the strides we have made through our Age-Friendly Strategy to ensure seniors feel supported and empowered at every stage of aging. This month is about recognizing their impact and ensuring they continue to thrive, stay connected and have access to meaningful programs and services.”
