Canada Will Not Join Military Action in Iran, Carney Confirms

Prime Minister voices support for U.S.–Israel strike while ruling out direct Canadian involvement

Prime Minister Mark Carney says Canada will not take part militarily in the ongoing conflict in Iran following coordinated strikes by the United States and Israel.

Carney’s remarks come after the joint military action that resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iranian state media had earlier reported strikes across the country, with initial attacks appearing to target areas near Khamenei’s offices.

While ruling out Canadian military participation, Carney reiterated his sharp criticism of Tehran’s role in the region. He described Iran as the “principal source of instability and terror throughout the Middle East” and stated that the country must never be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon.

Canada has expressed support for the actions taken by the United States and Israel. Additional explosions were reported in Tehran, including a large blast that shook parts of the capital on Sunday. Israeli officials indicated they were targeting central areas of the city.

The developments mark a significant escalation in regional tensions, with global leaders closely monitoring the fallout. Canada’s position signals diplomatic alignment with its allies while maintaining distance from direct military engagement.

As the situation continues to unfold, Ottawa’s focus appears to remain on supporting international security efforts without committing Canadian forces to the conflict.
