Canada to Discover 2026 FIFA World Cup Group-Stage Opponents in Friday Draw

With fewer than 200 days remaining until the kickoff of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Canada will learn its group-stage opponents today as the official tournament draw takes place in Washington, D.C.

The draw begins at 12 p.m. ET at the Kennedy Center, where host nations Canada, the United States and Mexico — all of whom qualified automatically — will be placed into their respective groups. Of the 48 teams set to participate, 42 have already qualified, while the final six will earn their spots through playoffs scheduled for March.

Canada, slotted into Group B, is preparing for its opening match on June 12 at Toronto Stadium, the temporary World Cup rebranding of BMO Field. The national team will then travel to Vancouver to face its second and third group-stage opponents on June 18 and June 24.

Tournament organizers have divided all qualified teams into four pots based on ranking and seeding. Canada is in Pot 1 alongside fellow hosts Mexico and the United States, as well as global powerhouses Spain, Argentina, France, England, Brazil, Portugal, the Netherlands and Germany.

Canada’s first match will be against the team selected from Pot 4. The June 18 fixture in Vancouver will be against the Pot 3 competitor, followed by a match against the Pot 2 team on June 24.

Fans can follow live updates throughout the day as the draw unfolds and Canada’s path to the knockout stage becomes clear.
