A tragic crash in Caledon early Sunday morning has left one young man dead and another fighting for his life, while the driver now faces serious charges.
Ontario Provincial Police say the single-vehicle collision occurred shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Bramalea Road near Boston Mills Road. The vehicle, carrying three occupants, veered off the roadway under circumstances still under investigation.
Emergency responders arrived to find a devastating scene. A 21-year-old passenger from Brampton was pronounced dead at the site. Another passenger, a 20-year-old man also from Brampton, sustained life-threatening injuries and was rushed to a trauma centre in the Toronto area, where he remains in critical condition. The driver suffered injuries described as non-life-threatening.
Following an on-scene investigation, police determined the driver was impaired by alcohol at the time of the crash. Karanvir Singh, 23, of Brampton, was taken into custody and now faces multiple charges, including impaired operation causing death, impaired operation causing bodily harm, and obstructing a peace officer. He was held for a bail hearing.
The road was closed for several hours between King Street and Boston Mills Road as OPP collision reconstruction teams worked to gather evidence.
