After more than a year in the making, Brampton’s first joint-use artificial turf cricket pitch is ready to open, marking a major milestone in the city’s mission to become the cricket capital of Canada.
Located at Turner Fenton Secondary School, the new facility will officially open this Tuesday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the City of Brampton and the Peel District School Board. Built to serve both students and the broader community, the state-of-the-art pitch includes artificial turf, professional-grade wickets, player pavilions, and floodlights for evening practices and matches.
The facility represents a collaborative effort between the school board and the city, allowing students to use the pitch during school hours, while community sports groups will have the opportunity to rent the space in the evenings and on weekends.
Construction began in October 2023, as part of Brampton City Council’s broader strategy to invest in cricket infrastructure across the city. That vision has already led to several new projects, including the city’s first tape ball pitch, a four-lane batting cage at Kwality Sweets Cricket Pitch, and another set of four batting cages at the Save Max Sports Centre.
This latest addition not only enhances access to cricket for youth and residents but also positions Brampton as a leader in promoting the sport nationwide.
