A Brampton man is facing impaired driving charges after police say he was discovered asleep behind the wheel of an idling vehicle with a blood alcohol level more than double the legal limit. Officers from the Ontario Provincial Police were conducting patrols on March 3 near the intersection of Mayfield Road and Airport Road in Caledon when they noticed a vehicle parked at a nearby business with its engine running and a person asleep inside. After approaching the vehicle and beginning an investigation, officers determined the driver was allegedly impaired by alcohol and had a blood alcohol concentration exceeding twice the legal limit. The 30-year-old man from Brampton was charged with operation while impaired and operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 milligrams. Police say the driver’s vehicle was impounded for seven days and his licence was automatically suspended for 90 days. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville at a later date to respond to the charges. Authorities are reminding residents that suspected impaired or dangerous drivers should be reported by calling 911 when it is safe to do so, while anonymous tips can also be submitted through Crime Stoppers.
