A terrifying scene unfolded on a London-bound train Saturday evening when a man armed with a knife attacked passengers, leaving ten people injured, nine of them with life-threatening wounds. Police have arrested a 32-year-old British national, now identified as the sole suspect, and confirmed that the incident is not being treated as terrorism-related.
The attack occurred shortly after 7:30 p.m. as the train departed Peterborough Station, heading toward London’s King’s Cross, one of Britain’s busiest commuter routes. Witnesses described scenes of panic and chaos as passengers tried to flee or hide from the attacker.
“There was blood everywhere,” one witness told The Times. “People were hiding in lavatories, and others were getting stamped on as they tried to run.” Another passenger recalled hearing someone yell, “Run, run — there’s a guy literally stabbing everyone!” while a third said he initially thought it was a post-Halloween prank before realizing the horror was real.
Police say two men were initially detained on suspicion of attempted murder, but one has since been released. The British Transport Police (BTP) confirmed that only one suspect — a Black British male aged 32 — remains in custody. Superintendent John Loveless stated the investigation is ongoing but emphasized that “this is not being treated as a terrorist incident.”
Emergency crews rushed victims to nearby hospitals, and the area around the Peterborough line was sealed off for several hours as forensic teams worked through the night.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the violence, calling it an “appalling incident.” In a statement on X, he said, “My thoughts are with all those affected, and my thanks go to the emergency services for their response. Anyone in the area should follow the advice of the police.”
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and investigators are now working to piece together how a peaceful weekend train journey turned into a scene of fear, bloodshed, and chaos that passengers say they will never forget.
